Living in multi ethnic society for me such as a great story in my life because I can live with people from different cultures, religions, and races. I was born in place where has the latitude and the longitude of 05°30′S and 104°30′E they called it Lampung. It’s located in South Sumatera. The place isn’t huge like our capital city. It looks like the third country in this world still need many improvements in all aspects of life. But we try our best to be better in Sumatera Island. Some said that it’s one of transmigrants destination in the era of Orde Baru when Soeharto was still a president of Indonesia. I have made friends with people who came from different culture’s root since I was a kid. They’re Javanese, Sumateranese, Chinese and so on. Beside that differences in religion didn’t mean anything for us because also in my family had a different belief between us and my sister in law also my nephews. It was a gift from heaven because we can still sit in the same table without seeing our disparity meanwhile in some areas there are society that can’t live together because still emphasizing their root as a self-esteem on top of their life and in my opinion it looked like a contagion of virus named fascist which had been spread by Mussolini in the past. I think we are the same as a human being. Talking in the same mother tongue, stepping on earth and of course drinking water when feel thirsty. But people have their own thoughts to make a good or bad decision, to make a war or live in peace because it’s a life. My hometown can get much information relative fast because it’s located not so far from the capital city then only 30 minutes by plane. In addition, new comers from all over Indonesia as usual exchange their cultures or information, beside that investment from investors can help the city to be developed. It’s an example for the advantages living in multi ethnic society because the society itself can be assimilated so that can help the economic growth of a city. In the other hand, sometimes there are people who still think about importance their own group so that giving birth a culture named nepotism for example in job fields. Not only in my hometown but also in big scale of my country and I think it is unfair for those who have done big efforts from morning to the night, from a day to few years to get the job’s position. It’s unsolved problem and pessimistic to be cleared because they live and enjoy with it. I am grateful to live in this country also my hometown (I only get back when holiday) because we still can live together without a serious social conflicts so far but some bad habits must be overcome which can be started from each person itself. Introspection and realization are the keys. To against the mainstream is difficult sometimes but try to think out of the box. Because without it how can this country be better?
